New Booklet: Israel–A Burdensome Stone to the Nations and the Apple of God’s Eye

Author Mike Oppenheimer writes:

The current conflict in the Holy Land originates in the spiritual realm, as those who worship another god attack God’s own choice to give the land to David’s descendants. Islam’s continual refusal to recognize and acknowledge Jerusalem as the city of the Jewish people fuels unending contention between the two. David founded Jerusalem on the ruins of a pagan city which his army had overcome, and the Jews (Hebrews) then lived there. The Muslims came in much later, building their mosque over one thousand years after David’s conquest and after the Israelites were removed from the land.

This removal did not change God’s mind on the matter of land ownership. When He said, “I have also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, wherein they were strangers” (Exodus 6:4), He meant it to be a binding word, one to last throughout all generations. …continue reading booklet…

Ray Yungen on spiritual formation and contemplative spirituality

*Contemplative prayer is a practice that has entered the evangelical church through the Spiritual Formation movement and has its roots in Catholic mysticism and panentheism (God is in all things). The practice entails repeating a word or phrase (often called a sacred word) in order to “remove distractions,” put the mind into a neutral state, and in this altered state, the contemplative practitioner hopes to hear the voice of God. I discuss contemplative spirituality and its dangers in depth in my book, A Time of Departing.
